Who are the Winter Park Flyers? |
 |
What is USA Track & Field & AAU?
|
| The Winter Park Flyers Track Club is a
private organization made up of Orlando area high school track and field
coaches, teachers and Orlando area business professionals. We are in our
inaugural season of 2006 and our goal is to promote the sport of track &
field and academic excellence in the Orlando metropolitan area through
age group track competition and PSAT/SAT/ACT preparation classes. For
the purpose maximizing the opportunity to focus on fundamentals and
technical development, our track club will consist of only middle and
high school athletes. Athletes between the ages of 13-18 (or 7th-12th
grade) are encouraged to join. The Flyers are a member of USA Track &
Field's Florida Association (USATF) and the Amateur Athletic Union
(AAU). |
|
USA Track & Field (USATF) is the national governing
body of track & field and AAU is the Amateur Athletic Union for all
youth sports. Before any athlete can compete in a USATF or
AAU-sanctioned meet, whether as a member of the Winter Park Flyers or
not, he/she must first become a member of USATF and AAU. Included in the
Flyers membership fee is the cost of the athlete's USATF and AAU
membership. Any athlete wishing to join the Flyers must, after paying
the club membership fee, complete a
USATF and AAU membership application
and return it to the club along with proof-of-age verification, such as
a copy of a birth or baptismal certificate, state or military I.D. card,
or driver's license. The athlete is encouraged to apply for their USATF
membership as soon as possible to ensure that they have their USATF
membership card (usually called a "USATF card" or sometimes, by
long-time summer track veterans, a "TAC card") in hand before their
first meet. See attached membership forms in packet. |
